— The Punch AMT uses a robotized manual gearbox with an electro-hydraulic actuator. If the AMT warning light comes on intermittently, or the car suddenly drops into neutral while driving, the actuator or clutch actuator motor is failing. This is the most expensive repair on a Punch and can leave you stranded mid-drive. Test the AMT in stop-and-go traffic for at least 15 minutes during the test drive.

— If the check engine light is on and the engine stumbles or misfires, the ignition coil or spark plugs may have failed. On the 1.2L Revotron 3-cylinder engine, a single failing coil causes very noticeable vibration since there are only 3 cylinders. Get an OBD-II scan — if it shows P0300-P0303 misfire codes, the coil pack needs replacement. Refuse any seller who says it is just a sensor issue.

— Some early 2021-2022 Punches had reports of steering rack looseness or a clunking noise from the steering column when turning at low speeds. This can worsen into excessive play in the steering, making the car feel vague at highway speeds. Check by turning the steering wheel left-right while stationary — there should be zero play or clunk before the wheels start moving.
