On 5 September 2026 Maruti Suzuki put the 2026 Baleno facelift on sale from Rs 6.10 Lakh ex-showroom, and for once the word "facelift" undersells it. The car gained a Level 2 ADAS suite that, according to Autocar India, none of its rivals offer: adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and high-beam assist. It gained a tyre-pressure monitor, ventilated front seats and a new engine. Every one of those is a thing the Baleno in your driveway does not have and cannot be fitted with. If you own a 2019-2025 Baleno, or its Toyota Glanza twin, the car you drive did not change last fortnight. What changed is how the next buyer will look at it, and that is the reason to read the rest of this before deciding when to sell.
What the 2026 Baleno Actually Adds
Autocar India reported the 2026 Baleno going on sale on 5 September 2026 at Rs 6.10 Lakh ex-showroom in Bengaluru. Variant price lists published later by Rushlane and Motoroids put the full range at Rs 5.99 Lakh for the base Sigma manual up to Rs 9.99 Lakh for the top Alpha (O) AMT, so treat that as a reported range up to about Rs 9.99 Lakh.
The safety story is the one that matters for resale. The Level 2 suite covers adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and high-beam assist. On Rushlane's variant breakdown, that suite sits on the top Alpha (O) trim only, which is reported from about Rs 9.50 Lakh. A tyre-pressure monitoring system is new across the update. Six airbags, a 360-degree camera and a head-up display are all present, though as Autocar notes, the HUD and camera are carried over from the 2022 update rather than new to this one.
Inside, the additions are ventilated front seats, a wireless charger, partial leatherette upholstery and a new six-speaker audio setup, sitting around the same 9-inch touchscreen the car has had since 2022. Outside, the changes are all at the front: a much larger three-slat grille that houses the radar module, the Suzuki badge moved up above it, a redesigned bumper, new fog lamps, a chrome garnish on the front fenders and a shark-fin antenna. The rear is unchanged. In the metal it reads as evolutionary; on a spec sheet it reads as a different class of car.
The engine swap, and why it cuts both ways
The outgoing four-cylinder K12N DualJet, 90hp and 113Nm, is gone. In its place is the three-cylinder Z12E 1.2-litre from the Swift and Dzire, with 83hp and 112Nm, paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT. Maruti's claimed efficiency figures, reported by Autopunditz among others, are 23.80 kmpl for the manual, 24.77 kmpl for the AMT and 33.61 km/kg on CNG.
One correction to early coverage: Autocar India and Rushlane both confirm the CNG Baleno, at 70hp and 102Nm, is offered on the Delta and Zeta trims with the 5-speed manual only. There is no CNG-AMT combination on the launch price list.
For a seller, the engine change is the one double-edged item: some buyers will prefer the older four-cylinder for its smoothness and extra 7hp, but that is an argument you now have to make to a buyer who has just read "Level 2 ADAS" on a showroom poster.
Old Baleno vs 2026 Baleno: The Feature Gap, Honestly Stated
It is worth being exact here, because not every old Baleno is equally far behind. The 2022 update, launched on 23 February 2022, was itself a big step: it brought the 9-inch screen, the head-up display, the 360-degree camera and six airbags to the higher trims, along with the K12N engine. A 2022-2025 Alpha is therefore closer to the new car on cabin tech than the headlines imply. A 2019-2021 car, on the older 7-inch screen with two airbags as standard, is two updates behind.

Read the table from a buyer's chair rather than an owner's. The buyer does not weigh eleven rows. The buyer sees one row, the first one, and it says No against every car built before September. That is what makes this facelift different from the 2022 one. In 2022 the old car lost a screen size and a camera. In 2026 it lost a category of safety equipment, and safety is what family buyers say they care about most. A used Baleno has not become a worse car. It has become an older car, all at once, in the way buyers measure age.
The Glanza is a month behind, not exempt. Toyota has confirmed the Glanza facelift for 14 October 2026, and CarToq, Rushlane and CarWale all expect it to carry the same Z12E engine, Level 2 ADAS and cabin additions. A Glanza owner has the same window as a Baleno owner, plus about five weeks of extra runway before the twin's exchange stock joins the pile.
How Buyers Compare a Used Baleno Now
Before the launch, someone shopping for a used Baleno compared it with other used Balenos, and with a used i20 or Swift of the same age. Our guide to used Baleno versus i20 and the one on used Swift versus Baleno exist because that was the real decision. The new car was a separate universe with a separate budget.
After the launch, the comparison set changes shape. The 2026 Sigma manual is listed at Rs 5.99 Lakh ex-showroom, and a buyer looking at a three-year-old Alpha will put the two side by side and ask what the difference buys. The honest answer is a lot of features the new base car does not have either: the Sigma has no ADAS, no HUD, no 360-degree camera. But that nuance is yours to explain, because the buyer's default assumption is that new means everything. The seller who wins names the specific trim and features in the listing, before the buyer has to ask.
There is a wider trend underneath this. The share of the used market that hatchbacks hold is still large, as we covered in our FY2026 used hatchback resale piece on the Swift, i20 and Baleno, and the Baleno has historically held value well within that group because it was the premium hatchback with the newest kit. Newest kit is exactly the thing that just moved.
Why the Next 60-90 Days Are the Window
Nobody can tell you today what a 2023 Baleno Zeta will fetch in December, and this article will not invent a percentage. What can be said, from the pattern after earlier Maruti facelifts, is how the mechanism tends to run.
A big facelift does two things to the used market for the outgoing car, and they arrive in sequence. First, in the days after launch, buyers who were about to buy a used one pause. They have seen the new car and want to know if a used example is now cheaper. Second, and this is the one that matters, the exchange stock arrives. Every buyer trading in a 2021 or 2022 Baleno against a 2026 one hands a used Baleno to a dealer, and the dealer prices it to move. That stock takes time to build: deliveries have to happen, valuations have to be done, cars have to be reconditioned. The build tends to run over the 60-90 days after launch, which for the Baleno points at roughly October to early December, with the Glanza's own exchanges landing from mid-October onwards.
Right now, in the second half of September, the pause has happened but the stock has not landed. A private seller listing this week competes with the same private sellers as last month; one listing in November competes with dealer lots holding exchange cars at trade prices. Values in the outgoing generation tend to soften through that period, and "tend to" is the honest phrase, not "will fall by X".
What this is not: it is not advice to sell a car you were planning to keep. A 2023 Baleno with 25,000 km on it is a good car, and it will still be a good car in 2029. The argument here is narrower. If you were going to sell within the next year or so anyway, the calendar has just handed you a better fortnight than the ones that follow it.
For a longer view of when a car's value curve rewards selling, the tip on the best age to sell a car in India lays out the three-to-five-year sweet spot, and this facelift lands right on top of it for every Baleno sold since the 2022 update.
List Your Baleno Before the Exchange Stock Does
A Rs 99 Verified listing cross-checks your registration number against the VAHAN database, carries a green Verified badge and gets priority placement. On average verified listings get 3x more buyer enquiries and sell around 40% faster, based on VahanBazaar listings data.
How to Price a Used Baleno Honestly in This Market
Pricing after a facelift is where most private sellers lose the window. The car sits for six weeks at the number the owner had in their head from last year, then gets cut in November to a number that is now competing with dealer stock. The sequence below is designed to avoid that.
- Price against your model year, not against the new car. Look at what 2022, 2023 and 2024 cars of your trim are actually listed at this week on our used Baleno hub, and price into the middle of that band. The new car's Rs 6.10 Lakh is not your reference; other used cars are.
- Name the trim and the year of the update. "2023 Baleno Alpha AMT, 9-inch screen, HUD, 360 camera, six airbags" is a different listing from "Baleno Alpha". The features the 2022 update brought are your answer to the "but the new one has everything" objection, so put them in the first line.
- Lead with the four-cylinder if you have it. The K12N's smoothness and its 90hp are a real, honest selling point against a three-cylinder replacement. Say so without running the new car down.
- Get the documents in order first. RC, insurance, service record, PUC and the loan closure or NOC if the car was financed. Our tip on the documents to have ready before selling a car is the checklist; a buyer who asks for the NOC and waits three days is a buyer who has looked at two other cars by the time it arrives.
- Let the record do the trust work. A listing cross-checked against VAHAN before it goes live answers the buyer's first three questions, owner count, registration year and fuel type, before they ask. That is what the Rs 99 Verified badge on VahanBazaar is: a check that the listing matches the record, not a claim that the car is perfect.
- Decide your floor before the first call. Know the number below which you keep the car. Then the first serious offer inside the band is one you can accept the same day, which is how a car sells in week one instead of week seven.
Why the badge matters more this month than last: when the buyer's alternative is a dealer exchange car with a dealer's paperwork, a private listing has to look at least as trustworthy. A green Verified badge, with the make, model, registration year and owner count pulled from the VAHAN record rather than typed by the seller, is the cheapest way a private seller can match that.
Buying a Used Baleno After the Facelift? Check the Record First
Everything above is written for the seller, but the same launch creates a buyer's opportunity, and buyers should walk into it with the same discipline. Over the next three months there will be more used Balenos and Glanzas on the market than at any point in the model's life, some of them from owners who are selling in a hurry to catch the window. A hurried seller is a fine thing to buy from. A hurried seller whose paperwork you did not check is not.
The check costs Rs 99 and takes a minute. Vahan Verify pulls the VAHAN record against the registration number and returns the registration status, the registration year, the fuel type, the owner count, the insurance validity, any blacklist or hypothecation flag and, for a further Rs 99, pending challans. On a Baleno specifically, three of those fields do real work. The registration year tells you whether the car is a 2019-2021 build or a 2022-onwards one, which as the table above shows is a different car with a different feature set, and sellers do occasionally describe a late-2021 delivery as a "2022 model". The fuel type tells you whether a car being sold as petrol has a CNG kit on the record, or the reverse. And the hypothecation flag tells you whether the loan a seller says is closed is closed on the record.
Then confirm the trim against the features listed, ask for the service history, and read our used Baleno buying guide for the model-year details, including which years got which engine.
What This Means for Used Car Buyers and Sellers
For sellers, the summary is short. The 2026 Baleno did not make your car worse, but it made your car older in the way buyers count, and it did so on 5 September rather than gradually. The exchange stock that follows a facelift takes weeks to reach the lots, and the Glanza's second wave is due from 14 October. If you were going to sell in the coming year, the fortnight in front of you is the one with the least competition it will have. Price against your model year, name the trim and the 2022-update features in the first line, have the documents ready, and list with the VAHAN record already cross-checked so the buyer's trust question is answered before it is asked. A Rs 99 Verified listing on VahanBazaar is the mechanism for that.
For buyers, the next three months are the best selection of used Balenos and Glanzas there has been, and the discipline is the same as ever: run the Rs 99 record check on the registration number before you travel, confirm the registration year against the seller's description, and confirm the loan is closed on the record and not just in the conversation. A used Baleno bought right this autumn is a well-equipped, cheap-to-run hatchback whose main sin is that it cannot brake for you. Plenty of buyers will decide that is a fair trade for the money. Make sure the car you buy is the car on the record.
And for the owner who was not planning to sell and now wonders whether they should: keep the car. The window described here is for people already on their way to the door; the new Baleno simply opened it a little earlier.
Sell Your Baleno in the Window, Not After It
The 2026 Baleno's ADAS, TPMS and new engine arrived on 5 September. The exchange stock arrives over the next 60-90 days, and the Glanza's from 14 October. A Rs 99 Verified listing cross-checks your registration number against the VAHAN database, puts a green Verified badge on the listing and gives it priority placement, so the buyer sees the record, not just your word. Buying instead? The same Rs 99 checks any used Baleno's record before you travel.
Frequently Asked Questions
The 2026 Baleno launched on 5 September 2026 from Rs 6.10 Lakh ex-showroom. The headline addition is a Level 2 ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and high-beam assist, which no rival hatchback currently offers. It also gains a tyre-pressure monitoring system, ventilated front seats, a wireless charger and partial leatherette upholstery, plus a new front end with a larger grille, relocated badge and redesigned bumper. Under the bonnet the four-cylinder K12N is replaced by the three-cylinder Z12E 1.2-litre petrol with 83hp and 112Nm, offered with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT, and a factory CNG option on the mid trims.
No. No Baleno or Glanza sold before September 2026 has any ADAS feature. The 2022 update did bring a 9-inch touchscreen, head-up display, 360-degree camera and six airbags to the higher trims, so a 2022-2025 car is closer to the new one on cabin tech, but it still lacks the driver-assistance suite, the tyre-pressure monitor and the ventilated seats. A 2019-2021 car has none of those either, and it runs the older 7-inch screen and a two-airbag standard fit, so the gap to the 2026 car is widest for those model years.
Nobody can promise a number, and this article does not. What the pattern from earlier Maruti facelifts suggests is that used values of the outgoing car tend to soften in the 60-90 days after a major update, because exchange stock arrives at dealers and buyers start comparing the old car with the new one rather than with other old cars. The Toyota Glanza facelift due on 14 October 2026 adds a second wave of exchanges. That is why the window immediately after launch, before that stock builds up, is the one to use if you were planning to sell anyway.
Price against the market for the same model year, not against the memory of what you paid. Check what similar-year, similar-kilometre cars are actually listed at, be honest about which trim you have and whether it has the 2022-onwards features, and state the service history and owner count plainly. A car priced correctly in the first week sells before the exchange stock arrives. A car priced on hope sits, and then competes with cheaper dealer stock later.
A Verified listing costs Rs 99 and cross-checks your registration number against the VAHAN database before the listing goes live, so the make, model, fuel type, registration year and owner count a buyer sees are the record's, not the seller's typing. The listing carries a green Verified badge and priority placement. When a buyer is choosing between a 2023 Baleno and a 2023 Baleno, the one whose details are already confirmed is the one they call first. Based on VahanBazaar listings data, verified listings get on average 3x more buyer enquiries and sell around 40% faster.
